Gran ruta GR-38

This route aims to make known to everyone who loves nature and our territory, the trails that from time immemorial and for millennia served to put people from different lands in contact.

For centuries, they were the only communication infrastructure between merchants and muleteers, becoming widely used routes that promoted those places through which they passed, favoring trade to flourish, giving rise to towns and villages.

Along its 100-kilometer route, spread over 8 stages, this route shows the traveler a whole climatic gradient and a mosaic of landscapes as in few places in the Basque Country can be found.

This trail, GR-38, wants to claim this character of our land, open to all peoples and people, for the knowledge of history with the maintenance of these routes through which for centuries there has been a continuous exchange of different cultures.

This GR-38 trail begins in the Alava town of Oyón and is divided into eight stages:

• 1st stage: Oyón -Laguardia
• 2nd stage: Laguardia - Lagrán
• 3rd stage: Lagrán - Albaina
• 4th stage: Albaina - Oquina
• 5th stage: Oquina - Estibaliz
• 6th stage: Estibaliz - Mendibil
• 7th stage: Mendibil - Legutiano
• 8th stage: Legutiano - Otxandio
